Former Chelsea manager frustrated as his team is defeated by Everton |
Questions were raised whether the 34-year old coach was the right cancidate for the job as Chelsea FC is a big team which competes for both domestic and continental honours. Vila-Boas was given the job as Chelsea manager after his success at FCPorto but Chelsea ignored the fact that handing the club over to the 34-year Portuguese as manager would be a challenge because of the following reasons:
- He is unfamiliar with the English football and culture.
- He is younger than some of the senior players at Chelsea.
- The standard of football in England is higher than of that in Portugal.
- He would have to deal with the huge egos at Chelsea.
- He is unfamiliar with Chelsea's philosofical formations.
From a communications point of view Chelsea FC created confusion amongst its supporters and the media when it emphasised at a press conference that Villa-Boas was hired on a long term basis and would be given full support by the team, only to find out a month later that he is fired. Chelsea supporters and the media were divided over Andre Villa-Boas, with a group who were tired of Chelsea constantly changing managers and wanted the coach to stay for a long period regarding long term ambitions. The other group were fed up with Chelsea's poor perfomance under Villa-Boas, as the is fairly out of the league title race. The media and supporters also realised that the there had been communication problems between the manager and some players.

Who is next in line for the job
League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan stated that a communication breakdown could occur with foreign club owners such as Roman Abramovich and the supporters. This breakdown is likely to occur as some owners know little about about English football and do not regard themselves responsible for football in England. Criticism on Chelsea's managerial policy aroused as it is a club with the highest record of hiring and firing coaches in the past three years. With a record of six coaches in three years, the latest being Roberto Di Matteo who is temporary in charge of the club.(http://www.skynews.com/)
It has also being reported that former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is likely to return to Chelsea as he wants to leave Spanish league leaders Real Madrid only after winning the Spanish league and if possible the Uefa Champions League. This would bring controvesy to Chelsea because Maurinho had a fall out with club owner Roman Abramovich. Maurinho is the club's most successful manager in Chelsea history, winning all domestic cups in England including two league titles. Again from a communication point of view it would be in Chelsea's benefit to rehire Maurinho because he understands the club's culture, has a good relationship with the players, engages better with the supporters and fans simply love him.

Chelsea should have never ever fired Jose, because now they are in a really bad spot. I blame the owner, he knows nothing about football yet he insits on being hands on with Chelsea and not even asking for assistance from people who know a bit about the game.
ReplyDeletebring back Murinho then Chelsea will be back to normal
ReplyDeletemourinho is a good coach, no doubt about it. but wont bringing him back to chelsea somewhat change chelseas way of playiing as he is now used to the spanish style of football, wont it be hard for the players to crasp the spanish style of playing, expecially with thier recent losing streak.
ReplyDeletebringing him back will change Chelsea's style of playing in a good way because he understands the club's culture and style of play therefor he will bring back Chelsea's original style of play
ReplyDeletejose being fire is putting the time in a bad light but we must just give it time who knows
ReplyDeleteIt will be huge uplifetment for chealsea and the whole football fans if Jose was to come back.Him bing back will end alot of specualations about him as a coach and hopefully helf chealsea's champions league drought
ReplyDeletechelsea manager is like bobby motaung, he knows nothing about football... never treat football like cattle farming. i think mourinho is a good coach but he is not good for chelsea.
ReplyDeleteChelsea is not about the coach but the management and the players, they should respect the coach as they do their job.I think is going to take time for chelsea to bounce back as they were before the young manager(AVB) took over Carlo Ancelloti.
ReplyDeletei agree with you vongani its not about the coach, but the coach plays a very significant role in the success of the team and the coach is part of the management as he is refered to as the team manager. you also got to admit that Chelsea has somehow played unatractive football since the departure of Mourinho
ReplyDeleteim a liverpool supporter, and i think that the entire english premer leauge is different without Mourinho.
ReplyDeletethey must give him time rome was not build on a day it take time to achieve things with a team look at Ferguson at Manchester he has been thier for 26 years now nad his glory did not start when he got there it toke time the other one is Wenger at Arsenal
ReplyDeleteMotso the English Premier League, has not only lost best coaches but has also lost good players to others leagues such as the Spanish La Liga and the German Bundesliga
ReplyDeleteTsholofelo, one would agree with you as he is young and he brought with him a different philosophy which most supporters were against as they want short term glory
